This transfer window has been a bit of a disaster for Chris Smalling as he’s been left in no-man’s land.
It’s obvious that Man United don’t want to keep him and they aren’t even going to give him a chance to earn a spot in the team.
Smalling was impressive at Roma last season and you have to think he would offer an improvement on the United defence that collapsed against Spurs yesterday.
There’s still no sign of Solskjaer changing his mind there, so a move to Roma did make the most sense for everyone.
Man United would get a fee, Smalling would get his move and Roma would get another centre back which they vitally need.
It’s now looking like Smalling could be stuck at Old Trafford as Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger emerges as a target instead:
Rudiger is a former Roma player as well so he’ll know the club, while Chelsea are overloaded at centre back so they will need to offload someone.
There’s no sign of Chris Smalling getting a move to any other team, so hopefully he does get a chance to prove himself if he stays.
