There’s been a running joke for a while about Lucas Vasquez and what he has on Zinedine Zidane for him to keep getting chances in the Real Madrid side.
The reality is that he’s just a versatile and hard working player who won’t let you down, and we’ve seen with Zidane that he only wants to play experienced players that he can trust.
It’s very possible that the French legend moved on this summer and that would lead to questions about the future of Vasquez too, with a report from Mundo Deportivo indicating that he’s attracting a lot of interest in a summer transfer.
A return to Serie A with Napoli and AC Milan has been touted and they should be two attractive destinations for him, but it appears he could also have the chance of a Premier League move with Everton and Leeds too.
It’s confirmed that Real did try to keep him with an offer of a new deal, but he was required to take a pay cut and it’s something that he wasn’t willing to do.
He turns 30 in the summer so this could be his last chance to secure a big contract with a good European side, and if Zidane does move on then it’s probably best for him to take that offer now instead of waiting for another year or two.
Leaving would also give him a chance to actually tie down a regular role in a team rather than being the reliable utility man who’s often overlooked, so this could be a good thing for him if he does move on.
